Togoba, Mt Hagen
Our campus sits at Togoba on the edge of Mt Hagen, Western Highlands Province — close enough to town to be practical, with enough ground for the workshops a trade college needs.
It is a working campus. Engines get pulled apart in the workshops, switchboards get wired and rewired, and the sound of tools is part of the day. Alongside that sit the classrooms and computer laboratory where our business and IT students study.
Students come here from across Papua New Guinea, which makes the campus a genuinely national community — and one of the more memorable parts of studying at MTC.
What is on campus
Trade Workshops
Dedicated workshop space for electrical, motor vehicle, heavy equipment, carpentry, auto electrical and plumbing training — with the equipment and consumables to do the work properly.
Classrooms
Teaching rooms for the theory side of every program — trade science and calculations as much as accounting, management and human resources.
Computer Laboratory
Where our computing and IT students work, and where business students learn the office software every workplace expects them to know.
Boarding Accommodation
On-campus housing for boarding students, so applicants from outside the Western Highlands can study here without arranging their own accommodation in town.
Grounds & Open Space
Open ground used for assembly, sport, graduation ceremonies and the cultural events that bring the whole campus together.
Student Support
Trainers, tutors and administration staff on hand for the practical questions — enrolment, fees, results and getting settled on campus.
Living on campus
Boarding students live at Togoba for the length of their course. It is the option most of our students from outside the province take, and it changes the experience of studying here.
- You are on site, so workshop and study time is not lost to travel
- You study alongside people from provinces all over the country
- Supervised study time is part of the routine
- Campus discipline is part of the training, not separate from it
Boarding adds K1,000 to a six-month Certificate IV or NC course, taking it to K4,000, and K2,000 per year to a two-year Diploma, taking it to K7,000 per year.
Student activities
A college is more than its timetable. These are the things that make a year at MTC memorable.
Cultural Show
Students bring the traditions of their own provinces to campus — dress, dance and song from across Melanesia, performed by the people they belong to.
Church Programs
Regular church programs and gatherings are part of campus life, open to students who want to take part.
Graduation
The day the work pays off. Families travel in from across the country to watch their students receive their qualifications.
